We fell in love with this boat at the Southampton boat show last year. It's so impeccably made. But we could not justify the price.

you mention to begin shut off power; if so, how do you check if there is voltage at the pos and negative. also, why is the postive a black wire.... seems to make more sense to color code them??

Great info but some wind angles would be nice. Judging by the drone shot of the wake whilst tacking I'd guess it tacks through 110 - 115⁰ so sails with optimum VMG at high 50s true?

I think a Kraken 50 would be a better option. Oyster are going with unprotected dual spade rudders and their keels are not integral.

He used waxed " filler" which is in fact gel coat. He says don't worry we'll be adding gel coat ! Aren't you supposed to use unwaxed and then wax the final coat ? Also ..do you color match three separate batches to add three final coats ? Asking for a friend

I have owned 2 Island Packets, and I can honestly say they are built like a tank. In my opinion they are the best sail boats made for cruising. Not to mention they hold their resale value extremely well.

Man, my sailboat’s engine got a bad leak. Damn. The water is a mess every time I start the boat. Any suggestions? I’d appreciate it.

Sun Odyssey was just in the news for a recall on retractable bow thrusters fitted to larger models. Those had the unfortunate defect that they weren't sealed in properly so if the bow hit a wave with sufficient force that the bow thruster mechanism would detach into the hull creating a massive hole that sank the boat in minutes.

Looks promising but also seems like there was a lot of things that could be improved, especially on the inside. I think that door to the head would drive me nuts (notice the gap above it), as well as the mouldings and lack of height.

I honestly cannot stand the aesthetic of Hallberg Rassy interiors - and I don't fully know why. They give off 'assisted-living retirement village' decor vibes, instead of 'cruise the world in sailing bliss' vibes.

This production really suffers from only having one camera. You can't cut to what you're talking about e.g. the wave you're sailing up/down. You could learn a lot from other sailing channels that have thier boat rigged with multiple cameras

These instructions are great, I loved the video. It should have pointed out though that electrical connections are the very first thing you ever check, as 99% of the time that's where the problem lies.

If you fold the sail into the bag with the hanks and clew all at the opening of the sail bag you can make all of the jib (or storm jib) connections without a loose sail flailing around on deck (and eventually off deck and overboard). Sit on the bag, make all sail connections, then unfurl from the bag once everything is secure. I learned that one from my dad on a sketchy day in a sudden fresh gale on the Chesapeake Bay, USA. (And just dowse the other foresail into the fore hatch and deal with it later.) And what's the wording of the advice? "If you think you need to put a reef in the mainsail, you should have already put a reef in the mainsail."?

I have owned a 44ft Essex Smack and I was glad to see the back of it!.. I now have a Hurley 22r and love the simplicity of it.. There is a lot to be said for small Yachts!..

I've had mine for 15 years and covered 1000s of miles in her around the Irish coast and offshore. She has never left us down. Headroom below is one of the few reasons I'd consider trading up. They are great value at their current market price, but worth looking for one with a new engine.

To build a 30ft boat with no standing headroom and a galley that's unusable a sea is quite an achievement. Overpriced boat that will not hold any investment value is quite ridiculous. Nice cockpit though.
